saturday morning...

I had to share a couple of funny things I bought in China...

There is the chance that having a little kitsch to have a small statue of Mao, but I just couldn't resist - it so silly. 

I found these two tiny statues I found at the Panjiayuan market and thought they needed a home

My husband loves bonsai trees and he found this one not long after we arrived, but during the winter we were sure it had died - he was so sad to think he had killed this amazing old tree.  The other day I asked him if he could please throw it away since I was so tired of looking at this old dead tree, then we saw THIS....

So, needless-to-say, he is thrilled and says to me "ye of little faith" and he's right ;-)

Finally, I just had to share a picture of all the great Korean fabric I got yesterday - this fabric is traditionally used in the Hanbok (traditional Korean costume) - I used this fabric in nearly every piece I create...

this year's favorite presents...

It was a really great Christmas!  Lunch on Christmas Eve day was a little rocky, the children where insane to open one present and I was a little short tempered, but Christmas Eve dinner went so well!  The children wore their bunads (Norwegian national cotume) and the food was really good.  When we started opening presents they took their time, were so very excited about each present and played with each thing as it was opened.  It was really a joy and so fun to see their excited faces and not this time faces of present-frantic!

I got this great book from my sister-in-law - Textiles Now by Drusill Cole.  It is a book that covers so many ways of looking at textiles - clothing, printed fabric as well as textile art, really interesting!

This is the very first present given to me that was totally picked out by my lovely 5-year old daughter, the look of joy on her face was something I will never forget and it will always make me happy!  She asked me a couple of times if I really liked it and then we had several conversations about how lovely it was.  So fun that she is not only developing a good eye for beauty, but also that she knows me so well and knows what I would like :-)
